532.Road head reverie - the trip to Loveless

A few weeks ago we wrote to guests with confirmed reservations inviting them to keep a diary of pictures of their road trips down to Loveless Motel, including in the letter a coupon for 24 hour film developing at Shutter Bug Camera Shop, located off the lobby. That request paid off! We share with you here just a tip of the iceberg of results that we continue to get, and invite you, future and former guests, to send us pictures of yourselves on your way to see us. Whether you're in your driveway at the beginning of your trip, you have pulled over to a rest stop, found a deserted highway you heard might be interested, a public park in a town you passed through, or just stopped to get gas, we want to see you!

As a public service, we ask that you refrain from taking any pictures which may compromise your safety. Road head, while it is a well known travel delight, can be dangerous if the driver is the one receiving AND holding the camera, especially at that crucial moment that has your eyes rolling back in your head and you drop the camera, while your foot hits the accelerator pedal and you holler "MAMA!"

527. Monday Morning Breakfast Roundup

Monday morning is the first day of some of our guests' stay at Loveless Motel, and restaurants from Birdwhistle's Tearoom to the Loveless Truckstop Cafe' are always busy breakfast crossroads of those checking in and checking out.  Some like it over easy and some over hard; for others, somewhere in the middle is just fine.

Over at the campground, some of the backpackers in lean-tos like this happy camper travel light and trap their breakfasts, or rely on local small game.  In the rush of some of our outdoor enthusiasts to get home, the campground cleared out pretty quickly, especially some of those Volkswagen campers, leaving a slaughterhouse of roadkill in their dust (fair game for breakfast), including 3 squirrels, a possum, a duck and a cat.  We're not asking this guy what the catch was.

This domestic pair from the Bahamas, booked into a deluxe kitchen suite at Loveless Motel will undoubtedly whip up something delicious, but one thing is certain - sausage and black pudding is on the menu. We hear that's a British Colonial thing. "Full English", please! We could easily survive for the week on this diet, without a thing in the fridge. These guys are here to inquire about the Certified Hustler program, and are looking for a few new friends to provide references. They're also looking for a friendly "port of entry" border agent who might provide a work visa in consideration for services rendered. Speaking of men in the middle, is "Spit-roasted Immigration Official" a breakfast item?

526. New, New, New! Poolside Mats for the Summer / Menu Items!

Responding to an advertisement he saw recently in a resort trade publication, Taylor from Dallas, the Loveless Motel Junior Manager, ordered a pallet of 20 boxes  of 30 lb. Institutional Size Cheez-it crackers in order to get 20 free inflatable pool mats in the iconic shape of the savory crackers, complete with the center hole, and forgot to tell anyone about it. A few guests have already had the pleasure of putting the mats to use on the deck, and report that they do the trick and can be wiped down with a damp sponge if need be.

Challenged with what to do with 600 pounds of orange crackers, Birdwhistle's Tearoom Head Chef Biff Wellington told Nic, the Senior Manager, "The summer months will be prime time to move the "dainty" tidbits,"  When he heard of his wafer windfall he sent Nic an interoffice menu:  "I've taken the liberty of creating some sample menu items on a list that should make good use of the product. This of course, is just a start"

521. Making memories at Nutbush Campground

Opening weekend seems to have gone off without a hitch at Nutbush Campground at Loveless Motel.  Many campers took the time to explore the trails, and Snap Wadmacher of Shutter Bug Camera Shop tagged along and got some great shots of our nature lovers' activities.  Paying customers can expect to have their photos arrive in plain brown mailers soon, (with a return address of "Fishing Camp") to the addresses provided to the check-in desk upon registration.  This, of course, may present a challenge for a few men, who upon receiving the news that their picture packs may fall into the hands of mothers or wives, can rest assured that if they choose instead to cancel their orders that their pictures will be sold in our shops to paying customers in order to recoup the cost of goods and Snap's time, and be part of the annual Big Book of Deadbeats sold during the holiday season here in the shops at Loveless Motel and by mail order via advertisements found in smutty magazines in arcades and adult book shops across the land.

507. A return to the attic

Keeping interns busy this time of year can be a challenge - the attic is always a safe choice on a list of weekend tasks.  One never knows what might be found, and the untold stories each picture might hold.
